Gilbert as Disrupter

چکیده
Michael Gilbert’s multi-modal theory of argument challenges earlier accounts arguing assumed in formal and informal logic. His account emotional, visceral, kisceral modes rejects the assumption that all arguments must be treated as instances one “logical mode.” This paper compares his alternative to other proposed by those who have argued for visual, auditory, “multimodal” arguing. I conclude multimodal (without hyphen) are complementary. Collectively, they represent an important attempt radically expand scope logic argumentation it studies.

We call this interval an open interval. • An interval with square brackets such as [a, b] means all the numbers between a and b including a and b. We call this interval a closed interval. • An interval with one square bracket and one closed bracket is called a clopen ...
متن کاملIntercalibration exercise using a stickleback endocrine disrupter screening assay.
The Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) is currently validating a short-term fish screening protocol for endocrine disrupters (estrogens, androgens, and their antagonists and aromatase inhibitors), using three core species: fathead minnow, Japanese medaka, and zebrafish. The main endpoints proposed for the first phase of validation of the screen are vitellogenin (VTG) c...
متن کاملIdeology masquerading as science: the case of endocrine disrupter screening programmes.
The global move to develop novel testing methods and strategies to identify suspected endocrine disrupting chemicals offers a unique opportunity to move away from traditional animal testing paradigms in this new area of regulatory concern. Regrettably, the programmes under development, both in the USA and internationally through the OECD, have thus far failed to consider in vitro and other non-...
متن کاملThe Gilbert arborescence problem
We investigate the problem of designing a minimum-cost flow network interconnecting n sources and a single sink, each with known locations in a normed space and with associated flow demands. The network may contain any finite number of additional unprescribed nodes from the space; these are known as the Steiner points. For concave increasing cost functions, a minimum cost network of this sort h...
متن کاملGilbert Weidinger: Regeneration researcher
S ome vertebrates, such as fi sh, amphibians, and lizards, have the ability to replace lost limbs and regenerate organs. Regeneration requires the reactivation of signaling molecules that were used during embryonic development. Weidinger has spent his career so far studying aspects of zebrafish embryogenesis, including the role of Wnt signaling molecules (1, 2), and has more recently been inves...
